"Open wide the doors for Christ!"

The Alabaster Jar

Contemplation

Mary of Bethany knew that positioning herself at the feet of Our Lord was all that was needed. When we focus our gaze on Him, nothing can distract us. Mary truly prepared Him for His burial. The outpouring of her “great love” first (before He did His own on Calvary), through her tears and anointing His feet, awaits us as a metaphor for the great Lent that is our lives; that period of purification until we share in His Resurrected glory. Mary stated her belief in Jesus as the Resurrection and the Life without words at all.

Action

leafSee the wounded head of Christ in those who are depressed and build up the Kingdom of God in them.

leafSee the pierced hands of Christ in those who suffer from physical maladies and in those who are empty-handed. Volunteer your time to care for the sick or help feed the hungry. St. Teresa of Calcutta witnessed to this kind of love.

leafSee the gaping side of Christ in those who are broken-hearted and grieve with them. Remember how Jesus wept at the
            death of Lazarus.

leafOffer your prayers and good works for the Poor Souls in Purgatory.

leafSee the feet of Christ in those who walk away from you – anoint them; and in those of the stranger who walks toward you - welcome them!

leafSee yourself as the alabaster jar; one that must be broken before it’s precious contents can be poured out.
